April’s UMT Challenge – Let’s Get Frunky

This week’s challenge is the first one for April.  Can you believe that it is April already?  Where does the time go?

The first Monday of the month The Diva, Laura, designated as the UMT Challenge.  UMT means Use My Tangle.  This month the tangle is: Frunky by Katharina Königsbauer-Kolb.

This  tangle is new to me so I decided to begin by drawing it as a monotangle on a two-inch tile (Called a Twinchie or Bijou tile}.  I love how the aura-ed three stems stand out when you shade the tile.

Tangle: Frunky
Shading: Graphite pencil

Then I did it on a three and a half inch white tile using one of my favorite color combination of aqua, peach, and tan:

Tangles: Bales, Onamato, Frunky
Color: PrismColor pencils

It is a tangle that I want to play with more.  I’m not sure it will make it to my list of Mac and Cheese tangles, but it is fun and whimsical.

Be sure to check out The Diva’s blog  to see how others have used Frunky!  I hope that you find the tiles others submit to be inspiring and educational.  Because I do not look at the submitted tiles until I complete mine, I will be looking at the submissions – hopefully before next Monday.

For those of you who read my blog last week, the floor is mopped and I tried Maria’s “clear nailpolish” technique using ModPodge that Molly suggested.  I used it on the green portion of the tile and it didn’t make much of a diffence except that now the green portion is shiny. I’ll try it again after I purchase some clear nailpolish and see if that makes a difference.

This week I’m busy gathering information for my accountant so I can get my taxes done (yes, I’d rather be tangling) and working with IPEVO to get my Document Camera fixed.  For some reason, when I use the document camera the screen is pink. Want to guess when the warranty ran out?  The week before the problem started.

This is the pink screen.  The original tile is in color.

I used the camera when I taught my monthly Zentangle class, when I taught a Zentangle class at the local library, and when I gave a talk about Zentangle to a church group. Each time I used a different projector and each time the screen was pink so I know that it is the camera and not the projector. I have been in contact with IPEVO and they had me try different things to see if it is the connection or the camera.  It’s the camera so I am waiting to hear back from IPEVO to see what to do next and to see if they will extend the warranty.  Wish me luck! Always something to keep me busy. 🙂

UPDATE:   Just a note to let you know that because the issue with the document camera started so close to the warranty date, if IPEVO decides that it is a problem with the camera, they will send me a Return number and has graciously decided to honor the warranty.  Yahooo!!! How does it get any better than that?  I decided to reward myself by tangling another tile.  This time I cut a three inch tile out of Mixed Media paper, used Frunky and the tangleations Katharina showed on her step-outs, and used another of my favorite color combinations.

Tangles: Frunky with tangleations
Colored with PrismaColor pencils

Thank you to all who submitted comments last week.

Until next time,
Sending smiles,
Maureen
