This is proving to be a very busy week so I wasn’t sure that I would have time to do a tile. I decided to just make the time to do one and ended up creating two tiles. For those who are new to my blog, I have made a promise to myself to publish my first tile no matter what I think of it.
The challenge this week is to use an official pattern, UMBLE. Maria has used the pattern in the past and has chosen now to publish it in the official Zentangle newsletter. ( Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts are the founders of Zentangle.) In the newsletter Rick hints that this might be a tangleation of Hollibaugh rather than being a new pattern. I think it is a tangleation.
On my first tile I used a string. I found Umble to be a fun tangle to shade, which I love doing. When I used this tangle in the future I will choose different patterns to put with it. My first attempt:
For the second tile I decided to use it as a mono tangle with a border. I had in my mind a different border but that pattern hasn’t been published yet so I used Zewm instead. I was running out of time, so I just put a doo-dad in the middle. Here is the tile:
I am behind on some projects in part because I spent last weekend with ten other CZTs at the first CT CZT Retreat. It was hosted by CT CZT Marcia Jones Rothwell at Sagamore, (Cape Cod) Massachusetts. The view was magnificent and the weather, for the most part, cooperated. You can’t see it in the photo but there are two seals in the water kissing – so cute!
We had classes to experiment with different materials, tools, and techniques. Of course there was great food, lots of sharing, laughter, and fun memories. Four of us shared our new tangles. CT CZT Cheryl Cianci, taught the classes. We tangled on 18″ fabric napkins, things from the sea (shells, rocks, sand dollars), and coffee filters. Although I did not finish any of the projects – I tangle very slowly – it was wonderful being introduced to all of these projects. I’d show the projects but they include the new tangles and I want to wait until they are published before I show them.
On Sunday we brought our luggage and our bags/rolling cases holding our supplies, and anything else we were bringing home, out into the hallway. It felt like leaving a college dorm for the summer. Even thought it has been many decades since I lived in a college dorm I still remember the ambivalence around leaving.
CT CZTs are fortunate because we have a gathering of some sort about once a month and I always look forward to being with my CT CZT sisters.
It is time to view the submissions for this challenge so I can ooohhhh and aaahhhh and pick up some ideas for the next time I use Umble. I encourage you to do the same at the Diva Challenge blog. I hope you find these tiles as inspiring and educational as I do.
There are times that I would like to leave a comment on someone’s site but unless there is an option for name/URL I cannot. I do not fit into the other categories. Sorry!
As always, I am so grateful to all who leave me comments and if you leave a comment I will leave a response. Fair enough? 🙂 Your comments are a great source of encouragement and support. To those who left comments last week, a huge THANK YOU!
Until next time,
Sending smiles,
Maureen
