A Guest Blogger for the Diva Challenge…

Laura Harms (aka the Diva) is taking a well deserved vacation so this week’s Diva Challenge is by CZT Jen Crutchfield.  She challenged us to use color, but limit ourselves to just two or three colors.  She suggested that we use colors we don’t normally use or two that we don’t think will look great together, and see if we can let our drawing change our mind.

As much as I love adding color to my tiles, pinks and reds are the two colors I shy away from using.  For this tile I chose to combine the pinks with purples.  I’ll have to do another one using the reds! 🙂

I decided to do a second tile using red pencils.  I paired it with Cool Greys and silver pencils, which don’t really show up in the photo.  It isn’t one of my favorite tiles because of the colors and also I couldn’t get the shading and highlights that I enjoy. (I’ll have to work with the red colors more.)

Does anyone know what color or colors of Prismacolor pencils will give me a cool red?  The reds I have are mostly warm reds.  If anyone knows which colors will help me get the cool reds, please leave a comment.  I used Carmine Red, Scarlet Lake, and Crimson Lake.  I topped them with the Red Polycolor pencil.

I  usually submit my tile early in the week to give myself the rest of the week to look at the other submitted tiles.  I don’t look until my tile is posted so that I won’t be influenced by what others do.

This past Monday my printer (which is also my scanner) died so I went out and bought a new one.  Then, being technology-resistant, I get very frustrated installing new equipment and this was no exception.  There were a series of issues: Getting the printer to talk to my computer’s wireless connection; getting it to print; finding the online user manual to see how to scan a document; printing in black and white.

I bought a Canon printer and have to say that they have the best Technical Support staff.  Knowledgeable, patient, kind, respectful and they have a great sense of humor.  I could tell from the conversation that each person I talked with was happy to be working there.  They eased my frustration so I felt better after each of the calls.

Wish I could say the same for my conversations with my cable company, who I also had to deal with to get the printer installed.  Enough said there…

Now that everything is working, it is time to view the submissions for this challenge so I can see what color combinations people came up with that I had not thought of using.  I encourage you to view the tiles at the Diva Challenge blog. I hope you find these tiles as inspiring and educational as I do.

There are times that I would like to leave a comment about someone’s tile but find that I am not able to do that.  The only option that I can use is the  name/URL option.  I do not fit into the other categories.  Sorry!
