With Laura Harms, (aka The Diva) on vacation with her family, this week’s Diva Challenge is from guest blogger and CZT, Sandy Hunter. Sandy challenged us to “Shift your focus to the negative space, so the white part of your tile is the focus of your tangle.”
This is my tile for this challenge:
This was truly a challenge for me because I tend to do use up all the space on my tile – there is always room for one more orb, right? 🙂 So, leaving an empty space that was begging for a tangle proved to be difficult. I decided to view the blank white space as if were another tangle, which made it easier for me to let go of the pull to fill the space. That may not worked for you, but it did for me.
It is a challenge that I will practice in my sketch book. At some point, with enough practice, I’m expecting those white spaces to seem natural rather than calling to be tangled. Thanks Sandy for this great challenge.
And a thank you to Helen Williams for showing an alternative way of drawing Narwal. When I use creator, Samantha Taylor’s step-outs for this tangle, try as I might (my sketch book is filled with pages and pages of trials) I just couldn’t get it to look pleasing to my eye. I will continue to practice Samantha’s original step-outs and who knows, someday I might be able to achieve a Narwal that looks pleasing. In the meantime, it is fun using Helen’s variation.
Now that my tile has been posted it is time to see how others used white space as a focal point. I hope you will take time to view the tiles at the Diva Challenge blog and find these tiles as inspiring and educational as I do.
There are times that I would like to leave a comment about someone’s tile but find that I am not able to do that. The only option that I can use is the name/URL option. I do not fit into the other categories. Sorry! I hope you know that I appreciate your tiles too!
As always, I am so grateful to all who leave me comments and if you leave a comment I will leave a response. Fair enough? 🙂 Your comments are a great source of encouragement and support. To those who left comments last time, a huge THANK YOU!
Until next time,
Sending smiles,
Maureen
